ATLANTA — The Diddy- creation of artist called “The Supreme Team” was short-lived : No, the clique featuring Diddy, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous, Red Café and DJ Khaled haven’t called it quits, but they changed the name of the group .
On Friday, via his Twitter page, Diddy announced that moniker alteration .
“Due to another group owning the name Supreme Team, in efforts not to hurt their business we have decided to change our name to the DREAM TEAM.”
Rick Ross elaborated on the change over the weekend during the Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash concert in Atlanta .
“Shout out to Irv Gotti and their whole movement, they’ve been repping the Supreme Team for a minute ,” he explained. ” The name fit us so well and we were caught up in the moment . We kinda just did our crew thing and ran with it. The name got hot in the streets. I think it was only right, us being entrepreneurs coming from the same place, representing the same game, being brothers.
“I think that was the right thing to do was represent them brothers while Gotti’s crew is cooking their product up,” he added. “So now it’s all about the Dream Team.”
Of course, the universe knows the original Dream Team was the 1992 gold-winning U.S. Olympic basketball team that featured Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley and others. That squad became known as the most dominant collection of players to ever touch the court.
“I felt like the ‘Dream Team’ was even more appropriate,” Ross continued. “I felt that was the greatest team ever put together. They assembled the greatest players from each market on the same team and they went and took on the world. They conquered the world! Shout out to the Dream Team and the Supreme Team .”
