Dmz Ip Address

Donna asks…

Setting Up a DMZ for my PS3. What Do I Put in the Public and Client IP Address Columns?

I am needing to set up a DMZ for my PS3. When I click on DMZ in my Router Configuration stuff, I get two columns, Public IP Address and Client PC IP Address. I need to know what to put in these columns please.

Tim answers:

Public IP, go to:

http://www.whatismyip.com

Client IP:
Set a static IP on your LAN outside of the DHCP range but on the same subnet (do this on the PS3).
Then put this number as the client IP in your router.

Thomas asks…

How do I find the IP address for my cable modem?

I was given an Arris model TM502G modem by comcast. I need to find the IP address so I can DMZ my Belkin router to it. can anyone help me find my modems IP address?

Tim answers:

This website should get you going:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/ipaddr.html

Mary asks…

What damage can be done from someone knowing your IP address?

K so I was playing WOW and some jerkwad kept trying to order me around. After a while I had enough of him and told him to F off. Now he says he has my IP address and will proceed to hack my system and f**k it up.

Is this accurate? I did not think it was hard these days to get a persons IP address. What is the extent of the damage this person or any person could do if they have an IP address? could they do a lot?

Tim answers:

An IP address is an identifier of who you are on the internet… Temporarily, unless you explicitly purchased a static IP address because you were going to run a server or something. If you have a home internet connection I can pretty safely say it is a temporary IP address.

“What can they do to you” — well, they can flood your address with traffic from one or many computers to essentially shut you off from the internet for the duration of the attack. If you have any applications which accept data from the internet (that your router has forwarded or DMZ’d unsolicited data to) that have unpatched vulnerabilities the attacker knows about (s)he can use it to send malware.

—–

That said: this guy/girl is much more likely than not just full of crap.

Chances are (s)he does not even have your IP address because it is highly unlikely that they were communicating directly without going through a server first (which means everything you do gets to his/her computer via one of Blizzard’s IP addresses). Of course, that is unless you were also on Teamspeak and the attacker’s a server admin or something.

And even if (s)he had your IP address I would not be too concerned since from how you describe your exchange — (s)he does not know what an attack consists of any more than you do.

—–

If you want to see your public IP address, just type “ip address” into Google and it will return to you your public IPv4 address.

If you want, you can write it down then turn your modem off then on… And try typing that into Google again — it will probably be different.

And if it is — then even if they were going to attack you… You moved.

((And apart from (D)DoS attacks — which just clogs your internet connection and not cause any real damage unless you are charged by-the-bit by your ISP — if you have a properly configured router and all of your programs which accept data from untrusted sources are up-to-date then you do not really have much to concern yourself with anyway.))

William asks…

How to use static IP for some of the computers and hardware on my wire/wireless LAN?

Details:
I use a Linksys Wireless router. On its configuration, I can define up to three Static IPs (or DNS). What I don’t know is how to associate each of these addresses I define on the router to a PC or other equipment. The computers that I use run either Windows XP or Windows 2000. The main purpose of this is to allow one of them to be on a DMZ, but also allow it to copy files to one of the protected ones.

Questions:
Can I use Static IP on the wireless equipment or only with the one connected through the physical ports?
How can I determine which equipment receives each IP address?
What, if anything at all, do I have to do on the computers themselves?

Tim answers:

On your wireless router the 3 slots are for placing a DNS Server, not to setup a static IP.

To setup a static IP on Windows XP:
1. Click on Start > Control Panel
2. Click on “Network Connections”
3. Locate the Network Card you wish to configure (either wired or wireless card).
4. Right-click on the connection you wish to modify and goto “Properties”.
5. On the “General” tab, scroll down to and select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click “Properties”
6. From this screen you can manually configure your IP Address by choosing the bullet points “Use the following IP address”, and “Use the following DNS server addresses”.

Note:
1) The IP Address must match the ip scheme used on your network. (192.168.1.x) “x” – being the device IP.

2) You must not use the same IP address twice!

3) Also note on your routers DHCP, make sure you do not give out an address in that DHCP range. (usually between 100-150, but they keep changing it).

4) You usually can use the router as a DNS server (usually 192.168.1.1), otherwise you will need to assign the DNS that the router gets, which can be obtained from the “Status Tab” on the router.

Question 1:
You may use a Static IP for wireless or wired equipment.

Question 2:
There are two ways to get an IP.
Static IP- Which you would specify what IP Address that device will have, or
DHCP – Which means that a DHCP server (most likely your router in this case) will give the device an IP address.

So if you wish to manually assign each IP, you will need to configure a static IP for each device you want.

If you dont care what IP it gets, just hook it up to the router via (Wired, or Wireless) and the router should assign it one. (Given the routers DHCP server is running and assigning the right information.)

Question 3:
If the device just needs a connection, usually the DHCP will assign it an address, if you must have a static IP then you may do so on the device itself.

I hope this helps…

How can you get free games and videos on your ipod without getting a virius?

On limewire,i get free songs.but people say you get viriuses by downloading videos and games. What can I do other than that to get free games and videos on my ipod?

Tim answers:

Yes, you may free download videos and games to iPod. And free videos, you may find many on limewire and youtube.

As iPod support MP4 file, you may find a converter to help you convert video files to it.
I recommend you to try Daniusoft DVD to iPod Suite which I used good now. It could help you convert any dvd or video to iPod video with only three steps. Also it let you set the movie effects, crop/ trim video.
You can free download it here to have a try:

Sony have offered a number of free services because of the PSN being down for a couple of weeks, including a choice of 2 free games from a list of 5, but there are no instructions as to how to download these free games. It’s almost as if they dont want you to downlad them. The Playstation Store is working fine, but I just don’t know how to download the free games. Any information would be appreciated!

Unblocked Websites For School

Carol asks…

How do i unblock websites or go on blocked websites at school?

We have an old apple computer at school most websites are blocked like myspace, youtube, napster, grooveshark, and etc.. any one know how can i go on it?or unblock those websites?

Tim answers:

Bring your own computer with a mobile broadband connection.

Trying to reach blocked sites can be considered hacking, and you could get expelled from school.
Is myspace really worth the risk?

Seriously, any good webadmin or sysadmin will have blocked the so called proxy sites as well.

The reason for blocking in Myspace is becuase of virus risks, for Youtube due to bandwidth use (slows down the internet for all) etc.

If you believe a site should be unblocked, contact your schools sysadmin, and request ‘whitelisting’ of the site you want, but with decent justification. Just “i want to” isn`t good enough.

Mary asks…

how do u unblock a block website at school if your school uses barracuda?

i need to unblock a website at school but i don’t know how to plz help me out

Tim answers:

No ways should work, school admin are wise to the way you kids try to break the security.

No proxies should work.

School’s are legally bound by the federal Children’s Internet Protection Act to block proxies and the like.

Schools have to take this seriously to get certain technology funding.

All the proxies you try should be blocked by your school. That is because most schools use content blocking software. It blocks proxies 98% of the time because of their content (that they are a proxy), not because of the web address.
Also there are admins like me securing the system, adding any the system may miss (listed on proxy lists and even here) by adding them to the DNS blacklist.

You are very very unlikely to find one that works and even then it will only work for a short time until they know you are using it.

Your risking your computer rights/detention/suspension by trying to bypass their security.

David asks…

Are there any websites that unblock MySpace and allow the login process?

Because I’ve found plenty of unblocking websites, but some dont work with the MySpace login process! This isnt for school, its for at home.

Tim answers:

You could also try using
http://myspace.com (take out the www.) … It worked on the government computers back at fort stewart

Sharon asks…

What do i type into the command prompt to unblock websites?

I’m at school and half the websites on my wireless are blocked so im wondering if there is something i can do, besides going on proxies to unblock those sites so yea….

Tim answers:

Nothing will unblock websites through a command prompt.

Jenny asks…

How do you hack into a school computer to make the blocked websites unblocked?

I’m trying to get on myspace from the school computer. If you know how to get pass the school firewall system let me know via e-mail

Tim answers:

Circumventing Internet access control systems with web proxies to access unauthorized web sites is a violation of school computer usage policy. You will get suspended and/or banned from using school computers when you get caught. Use school computers for school work, and myspace can wait until you get home. Do you really want your teachers and school administrators knowing what you are posting on myspace anyways?

Facebook Proxy Sites List

Sandy asks…

Does anyone know whether or not blockbuster express are private franchises?

These are the movies boxes that are usually found outside of Speedway where people can rent movies using debit or credit cards. Not to be confused with Redbox. Blockbuster, who were scratching for business decided to compete with Netflix and Redbox by copying their ideas

Tim answers:

From what I do know It’s ran by a company called NCR, available only if you wat to put a machine @ your place of business, not to own. If you are looking to own a machine try DVD Now, or google DVD vending machines you can find info that way. :-)

Carol asks…

Do most people pick different passwords or use same one a lot?

When people have different emails and social sites, do they nornally use same password for all sites to make it easy to remember but lazy or they use diff passwords to make it harder for people to break in ??

Tim answers:

Most people use the same password for everything.

An associate of mine ran a MySpace/FaceBook proxy. In one month he collected 40k logons for those sites.

Almost 80% of them used the same password for their email.

We then tested other “services” with a few of the emails used… Half of them shard passwords with their online banking and other “critical” accounts.

We never did anything with the passwords other than this experiment, and we never released the list… So y’all don’t have to worry. The list is gone, but we could very easily have another one in a month… Anybody could.

Now, the data is somewhat affected by the fact that a proxy was being used, this tends to indicate that the user is an idiot when it comes to security, and usually of a younger and less affluent demographic given the sites they were accessing.

EDIT: I can’t risk being malicious. If I get into any legal trouble involving ethics and computer security, my comfortable career is gone. It’s more of a proof of concept than anything else. I’ve written malware for the same purpose. I also installed Snow Leopard just to break it.

Sandra asks…

Are there any working proxy sites for China?

Hi, I’m travelling in china right now, and I noticed facebook isn’t working. I really need to keep in touch with some of my friends. Anyone have any working proxy sites? I’ve tried many, but they all failed. Thanks

Tim answers:

A nice list of spam going on here but nothing that is going to help you out in China.

Paul asks…
