Is there a way to turn my PC into a local server?

by Tim on June 19, 2009

Is there a way to turn my Windows Vista Home Premium PC into a server, for people on my network, so when they type in my IP address (i.e. “http://00.0.0.0/” ) it opens a website on my PC? I’ve tried WAMP, but it wouuldn’t work.
Thanks in Advance.

well you could install http://www.apache.org/ this is a free webserver
and as for the ip 0.0.0.0 is an ip of a machine thats been realeased from the network, the local server would be 127.0.0.1
once you configure the apache server. you would need to give people your ip address to get. or you could check out using dyndns http://www.dyndns.com/

You need a webserver.

Look into Apache. It's free.

Wamp is the best there is.
Be sure to stop skype before running it
After running it click test apache server and it will open a dos box and tell if the server is running and if not what is the reason

Don’t forget to buy an UPS(uninterruptible power supply) to keep your server up all the time, even if you are confronting a power failure. ;-)
