Does a netspend card charge overdraft fees?

by Tim on November 28, 2009

I just ordered a netspend card. From my understanding, it is a secured credit card (a visa, much like a debit, where your own money is put on the card, but it helps build up your credit.) If you don"t have enough money in your account for your purchase, will it stop at 0 (such as a gift card) or will it overdraw (such as a debit card)? If it will overdraw, how much is the fee?

  • All prepaid cards are advertised as no overdraft fees; however there are fees for atm declines. An ATM decline fee is when you try to pull out money from an ATM but you dont have enough money in your account to support the withdrawal. You should really pay attention to this fee when choosing a prepaid cards as they are not all the same, varying from card to card.
NetSpend in particular charges up to $1.00. If you have a hard time keeping track of your money, I would suggest the AccountNow prepaid card. They also charge a ATM decline fee; however, it is only $0.40 cents. To find out about their other fees, check out http://www.accountnow.com/services/fee-schedule...
